New LE from DM - 1959 Impala has been re-tooled as a Coupe!

 Just when you thought it was safe to put away your wallet, DM introduces a 50th anniversary limited edition of 5,000 models, of the 1959 Impala Coupe in Cameo Coral. Ought to look really sharp parked next to their convertible, painted a gorgeous crown sapphire. As of this writing the convertible is no longer listed on their website, but since it was not an LE it seems unlikely they would have discontinued it so soon. My guess is they're clearing the way for an anniversary LE convertible in another color this year, and that the sapphire standard issue will likely return to the lineup eventually. FM Repaints the 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina, and introduces the "Lambanda."

 We're always moaning about repaints, but this is one (two actually) that many collectors have been waiting for. The model comes in either black with a red roof and black interior, or the exact reverse. Nice way for FM to get two variations without additional paint colors; that is, unless you don't like red & black. Each is being issued in a small limited edition of just 550 pieces. DM Preview Society prices increase.

What you pay depends on when you joined (later members pay more), but every once in a while they raise everyone's price to keep pace with the rising cost of new issues. I've been paying $108 for my PS models since I joined a couple of years ago, during which time the price of a standard issue model has gone from $115 to $120, and then to $129, an increase of $14.

DM has finally upped my preview price to $117, an increase of $9, so I'm still ahead of the game even though I'll pay more for mine now. Can't complain really, since I'm still getting a deal.

Danbury Mint's new '49 Mercury Surf Woody is here!

 New from the Danbury Mint, a special edition of the 1949 Mercury woody station wagon, all decked out in California surfer style. The model comes complete with 2 surf boards, 2 pairs of sandals, a skateboard, beach blanket, and vintage cooler, all replicated faithfully in 1:24 scale. Click here to see the full photo spread.
